Happy Sjómannadagur!

Saturday was Sjómannadagur, a celebration of the end of spring fishing season. It honors the town's fishermen and remembers those who died at sea. It started with a procession to the church, then proceeded with singing by the fishermen's choir (spirited and lovely), a boat tour of the harbor, games, coffee and cake and a late-night dance party! These folks know how to devote and entire day to a celebration. One of the NES artists did an installation project with the local fish-freezing plant, submerging fish and related nets and such in huge blocks of ice that were allowed to thaw during the celebration.
