Living (and sleeping) near the Artic Circle

So when I booked this residency for June, I was not thinking about the fact that I would be coming here just when the days are longest. And man, are they long! At 10:00 p.m. the light outside looks like it is about 5:00. It just goes on and on, making for a long working day if you want it, but causing great confusion in my New York brain. I have not stayed up all night to see if it actually gets dark at some point, but I suspect not. For the first few days I slept with a sleep mask, actually very effective but not so comfortable sleeping with something on your face every night. My bedroom has a white roller shade and thin white curtains, not even close to reducing the amount of light, so I started pinning up blankets over the windows, then bought a roll of tin foil, which proves to be perfect. Now I look like one of those crazy people who puts up tin foil to prevent contact from alien UFO's... but my room is a lovely dark cave and I am sleeping like a baby.

I figure the Arctic Circle is about here... You might think that it would be super cold here, but the gulf stream comes up this way, warming Iceland up to a surprising degree. As they say, Iceland is green and Greenland is ice....
